Taika Waititi adapted Kazuo Ishiguro novel Klara and the Sun with Jenna Ortega, and the coverage I am seeing calls it a box-office flop with the international release reportedly cancelled. I usually like weird dystopian sci-fi and I liked the book, but a cancelled rollout is a bad sign. Is this a case where the movie is actually interesting and the marketing failed it, or is it just a legendary misfire worth skipping until streaming? No spoilers please, just whether the theater ticket is worth it.

Wait for streaming. I loved the book too, and the book works because you sit inside Klaras quiet way of noticing things - that is hard to carry on a big screen, and a cancelled international rollout tells you the studio itself lost faith in the theatrical cut. Save the ticket money, watch it at home where you can pause and actually sit with it, and if it turns out to be a hidden gem you have lost nothing by waiting a few weeks.
