It's Halloween morning and I still don't have a costume - Buddy the Unicorn or just go classic witch?
Google's Frightgeist list has Buddy the Unicorn, the killer mascot from the new horror film Buddy, as the most-searched costume of 2026, ahead of NeeDoh and Nikki from Obsession. But the National Retail Federation still has witch as the top adult costume overall. I have a party tonight, no costume yet, and about two hours to pull something together. Do I chase the trending thing with an orange unicorn getup I would have to cobble together from scratch, or go classic witch with stuff I mostly already own? It has to survive a whole party, and I refuse to spend real money on something I wear once.

You have two hours, not two days. A witch is a black outfit, a hat from any party store, and eyeliner you already own. The unicorn means finding an orange outfit you do not own and then explaining the joke all night to people who have not seen the movie. Trending costumes are for people who planned in September. Save the money and the hassle.
