CJ Carr caught on camera with binoculars watching his brother Tommy start for Michigan - bad look or just a brother being a brother?
Notre Dame is on bye this week, so CJ Carr went to the Big House to watch his brother Tommy make his first start for Michigan against No. 6 Indiana. The Fox broadcast showed CJ in a box holding binoculars, and Connor Stalions - the Michigan staffer exiled over the sign-stealing scandal - jabbed on X that the shot looked familiar. Obviously a fan in a box is not a staffer on a sideline, and Tommy is his brother, so being there is the normal human thing. But optics are optics, and college football fans love a conspiracy. Is this a total non-story, or does a quarterback watching a rival game through binoculars invite exactly this kind of joke? What would actually make it a real issue rather than a funny camera shot?
1 answer
- Box seats are not a sideline
This is a non-story and Stalions knows it. A brother sitting in a box with binoculars is not a staffer on a sideline filming signals, and the whole point of the scandal was access and intent, not owning binoculars. If CJ were on the Michigan sideline with a headset, that would be different. Watching your little brother start his first big game is what a family does on a bye week. The joke lands because Stalions is good at trolling, not because anything wrong happened.
