Glee is officially coming back on Disney Plus and Hulu — new cast or originals, and is a reboot even a good idea?
Disney Plus and Hulu just greenlit a Glee revival today, October 21, eleven years after the original ended in 2015. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan wrote a new script, Murphy says about ten original cast members were enthusiastic, but no cast list or premiere date is out yet. The original ran six seasons and put 207 songs on the Hot 100. I loved the early seasons and skipped the later ones. Should the revival bring back the originals as teachers, start fresh with a new glee club, or is this a reboot nobody actually needs?
1 answer
- Fresh cast, same songbook
Start fresh with a new glee club and let the originals cameo as teachers for one episode, not as leads. The early seasons worked because the kids were unknowns singing current songs, and a reunion of forty-somethings playing teenagers would break that spell. Keep the Lima setting, keep the songbook, and judge it on episode three, not the announcement hype.
