Book the Thanksgiving flight now, hold off on Christmas if you're flexible
Runner-up: Turn on Google Flights price tracking and let the data decide100% of the vote

Google says book Thanksgiving and Christmas flights NOW because the cheap fare window moved earlier — is that real or marketing?

Saw a story from this week saying Google's 2026 travel data shows the cheapest booking windows for Thanksgiving and Christmas moved earlier this year, so waiting for a deal is riskier than it used to be. I'm trying to get home for both holidays and my usual strategy is waiting for a price drop in November. Has anyone actually tested this — do you really save by booking now, or does the usual late-fall dip still happen?

Book the Thanksgiving flight now, hold off on Christmas if you're flexible

Thanksgiving has fixed demand — everyone flies the same four days, so the price floor is basically known and waiting never helps. Christmas has a wider travel window, so if your dates can shift by even a day or two there can still be dips. Book Thanksgiving now. For Christmas, book only if your dates are locked; otherwise set a price alert and wait two more weeks.

Turn on Google Flights price tracking and let the data decide

Don't trust either narrative — Google Flights lets you track a route and shows the historical price graph. Enable tracking today: if the current price is within 10-15% of the 12-month low for that route, book it, because the data Google is citing (cheap windows moving earlier) means the low is probably behind you. If it's near the high, set the alert and wait — you'll get pinged the moment it drops, which beats guessing.
