Flyers home opener tonight vs the Penguins — worth paying for tickets or is last year the ceiling?
The Flyers just announced their 23-man opening night roster and they open tonight at 7:30 against Pittsburgh. New faces: goalie Joseph Woll, defenseman Simon Benoit, forward Noel Acciari. Denver Barkey starts on IR. Rookie Porter Martone made the roster after a point-per-game cameo last year (4 goals, 6 assists in 9 games) and there is Calder buzz. They made the second round last spring, first playoff berth in six years. Tickets are not cheap though. Honest question: is this team actually better, or was last year the high-water mark with an unsettled goalie situation? The TNT Fan Fest at Stateside Live is free from 3pm at least.

I am not a hockey expert but I watched his call-up last year and a point-per-game rookie does not happen by accident. Top-six minutes, Calder buzz, home opener against the Penguins — the building is going to be electric. And honestly the Fan Fest at Stateside Live starts at 3pm with the TNT crew (Liam McHugh, Gretzky, Lundqvist) and it is free, so even if the team regresses you still get a full day of hockey atmosphere for the price of a train ticket.
