Zach Cregger's Resident Evil is in theaters this weekend — theaters or wait for streaming?
Cregger's Resident Evil reboot is out this weekend. I loved Barbarian and Weapons, so I'm genuinely curious, but horror reboots have a rough track record. My situation: ticket near me is $19. For anyone who's seen it — is this a theatrical experience (sound design, jump scares that play better with a crowd), or is it a wait-for-VOD-at-home one? What I've considered: seeing it Friday night vs. renting at home in a few weeks for half the price.

- a Thursday matinee showing
If you're on the fence, matinees are the answer. I saw Barbarian at a 2pm show — $9 instead of $19, nearly empty theater, and horror honestly hits different with a tiny audience. You still get the big sound and the crowd jumps without the full ticket price or the talkers. For a maybe-good reboot, $9 is the right risk.
