Fox just bought Roku for 22 billion dollars: does that change which streaming stick I should buy?

Fox completed a 22 billion dollar acquisition of Roku today. I am shopping for a streaming device and I was leaning toward a Roku stick because it is cheap and simple. Now I am wondering if Fox ownership means more ads, more Fox content pushed to the home screen, or a worse experience in a year. Should I still buy the Roku, or pay more for an Apple TV or a Fire TV Stick instead? I mostly watch Netflix, YouTube, and sports.

Buy the cheapest stick on sale

A 22 billion dollar deal does not change what is on your TV next month. These integrations take a year or more, and Roku already shows ads. Buy whichever stick is on sale this week, probably the Roku Express for around 20 dollars, and revisit in a year if the home screen gets worse. Paying 130 dollars for an Apple TV to dodge ads you have not seen yet is the expensive move.
