Eric Dane's memoir My Book of Days is out today, November 3, in hardcover, ebook, and audiobook. The audiobook is narrated by Jacob Elordi, who played his son on Euphoria, with Maria Shriver reading her chapter, and it runs about 5 hours 53 minutes. I knew Dane from Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria and I want to read it properly, not just skim the headlines. For people who have already picked a format for a memoir like this: does the Elordi narration add something real, or is the print version the one to sit with?

Audiobook, Elordi reading it matters here

Go with the audiobook for this one. Elordi is not just a celebrity narrator here, he played Dane's son on screen, so hearing him read Dane's own words about fatherhood lands differently than print. At under six hours it is a weekend listen, and you can pause and sit with the heavier chapters. Save hardcover for a book you plan to lend out or reread with a pen in hand.

Print, read it at your own pace

Print, and take your time with it. A memoir written for his daughters, with chapters built around single days, is made for rereading a passage and putting the book down. Audio is fine for a commute, but the parts about his diagnosis and his family deserve a pace you control, not a narrator's. The hardcover also means you are not skimming it between podcast episodes.
