Best AI meeting note-taker that does NOT join the call?
Just read that Wispr Flow launched an AI notetaker for Mac that records your meetings WITHOUT joining as a participant bot. That's the dream honestly — I'm so tired of the 'note-taker has joined' awkwardness. But wait, does it actually record from your own machine without telling everyone? And what else does this — I know Fireflies/Otter all join as a visible bot. Are there tools that capture audio locally on my device and just give me a summary after? Bonus question: how do you handle the consent/privacy side of this? Asking your whole team permission every meeting sounds like a nightmare.

Granola does the on-device version of this on Mac — it records meeting audio locally from your own machine, no bot joins the call, and it only uses your handwritten bullet notes plus the audio to build the summary. That is the closest answer to "does not join as a participant." Check the fine print though: audio is processed in their cloud for transcription, so it is not truly local despite the local capture. If your org cares about data residency, that is the thing to verify in their security docs before installing. On consent: legally you are the recorder, and in one-party-consent states you are covered, but your employer policy usually overrides that — check your employee handbook first, it takes 30 seconds and it is the part everyone skips.
