ChatGPT search is now about 20 percent of Google search volume: switch my default or stay put?
Reports this week say ChatGPT search-like queries now equal roughly 20 percent of Google search volume, and it has 1.2 billion weekly users. I use Google for everything out of habit, but I keep hearing that chatbot search is better for open-ended questions and worse for quick facts and shopping. I am not switching for hype, I want the tool that gets me the right answer fastest. For people who have actually switched their default: what did you miss about Google first, and what made you stay switched?

- Keep Google default, use chatbot for open-ended questions
I kept Google as my default and use the chatbot only for open-ended stuff like planning a trip or comparing options. What I missed first when I tried switching fully was local results and shopping: store hours, stock checks, and price comparisons were all slower and vaguer. My rule now is simple: if the question has one factual answer, Google. If it needs a summary of tradeoffs, chatbot.
