Nintendo put the Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 on sale October 29 for $519.99, black and gold with green and gold Joy-Cons, and preorders were mostly gone before launch day. The catch I keep tripping over: the console does not include a game, and the Ocarina of Time remake it is themed around does not arrive until November 5. I already own a regular Switch 2. Is the anniversary hardware worth chasing through restock alerts, or is this a wait-until-it-is-easy situation? I do not want to pay a scalper markup for a paint job, but I also do not want to miss it if Nintendo underproduced it.

Wait for a restock, never pay markup

Wait. You already own a Switch 2, and this box ships with zero games. The anniversary paint is nice, but Nintendo already said restocks are planned, and the Ocarina remake is a separate $ purchase on November 5 either way. Set one restock alert, buy at $519.99 if it pops, and never pay a scalper a dollar over retail for a console you already functionally own.

Counterpoint: if you actually want this specific console, waiting for it to get easy is how you miss it. Anniversary hardware does not get cheaper, it gets scarcer, and Nintendo already admitted it underestimated demand for this one. The math that matters is $519.99 plus the separate Ocarina purchase versus whatever a reseller charges in December. A restock alert costs nothing, and buying at retail the moment one fires is the only version of this that makes sense.
