DoorDash announced today it is buying Instacart for about $17 billion at $65 a share, a 26 percent premium over the October 22 close. The deal is not expected to close until late 2027 or the first half of 2028, and the companies say customers could save an estimated $100 million a year by not paying for two memberships. I currently pay for both DashPass and Instacart+ and use each a couple of times a month. Is there any reason to cancel one now, or does nothing actually change until the deal closes and regulators weigh in?

Cancel the one you used less last month

Forget the merger for a second and look at your own order history. If you used Instacart+ twice and DashPass eight times last month, the answer is obvious, and the $100 million savings number is company PR, not a promise to you. I would pull up both apps, count the last 30 days of orders, and kill the loser today. You can always resubscribe if the combined plan ever shows up.

Wait until the close, then drop one

Nothing changes for you until the deal actually closes, and that is late 2027 at the earliest. Both apps keep running separately, both memberships keep their own perks, and regulators have not even started their review. Cancelling now just loses you a service you use. Set a reminder for when the merger closes and re-check then, because that is when a combined membership could actually exist.
