Nvidia just agreed to invest 3 billion dollars in Meta - smart AI infrastructure bet or an overpay at the top?

Nvidia agreed to invest $3 billion in Meta, right as Meta is also raising tens of billions for AI buildout and the AI trade is lifting the whole market. On one hand Nvidia is basically funding its biggest customer. On the other, $3 billion into a company already spending at this scale looks like a bet that the AI buildout never slows down. Is this Nvidia locking in demand for its chips, or is it concentration risk dressed up as strategy?

This is not Nvidia betting on Meta stock. It is Nvidia making sure its biggest buyer keeps buying Nvidia chips instead of building its own silicon. Meta has talked about custom chips for years. Three billion dollars is cheap insurance to keep that order book full, and Nvidia can afford it out of a quarter of profit.
