Activision admitted Black Ops 7 "wasn’t what players wanted" — is Modern Warfare 4 on Oct 23 the bounce-back, or wait for the new sub-franchise?

I skipped BO7 after the reviews and the player counts tanking (apparently down to ~20M monthly at one point). Now Activision’s own CMO just said it "wasn’t something our community was looking for" and that MW4 goes back to a grounded military shooter. MW4 drops Oct 23 and the early-access campaign is live today. But they also said a whole new CoD sub-franchise is coming next year to fix the fatigue. For a casual who mostly plays the campaign and some multiplayer with friends: buy MW4 at launch, or is this the kind of year you wait for the first big sale?

BO7’s player base cratered and MW4 launches three weeks before GTA 6 sucks all the oxygen out of the room. Here is the free option: the early-access campaign is live TODAY. Watch a full no-commentary playthrough — that is the whole campaign, spoilers and all, for $0. If multiplayer holds up through launch weekend and the reviews are not another round of franchise-fatigue 6s and 7s, buy it then. Pre-ordering a CoD in 2026 is paying full price to beta-test a game they already told you the next one replaces.
