A LendingTree survey going around says side hustlers average about $1,215 a month in extra income. I have roughly 10 free hours a week and a budget of exactly $0 — no car, no spare room, no audience. For people who genuinely started with nothing: what was the first thing that actually paid, and how long did the first dollar take? Not interested in course pitches, just the honest path.

The first dollar is always boring. Sell things from your own closet on Marketplace, then buy underpriced stuff, clean it, relist it. $0 startup cost. My first $40 came from a chair I almost threw out. That survey average includes people who already had businesses running — ignore it and just count your own first dollar, then repeat whatever worked.
