Samsung is launching Android XR glasses this fall. We have seen this movie before: every company ships AR/VR hardware, the demo looks cool, and two years later it is in a drawer. Google doing the software side this time is the only new variable I can see. My question for people who bought first-gen headsets: did you get your money's worth, or was it the same story? Trying to decide if these are worth day-one money or if the smart move is waiting for gen 2 like always.

I have bought two first-gen gadgets in my life and both times the lesson was the same: the hardware is fine, the software and the daily-use comfort are not there yet. With glasses the stakes are higher because fit and weight are everything and you cannot fix those with a firmware update. If you are curious, let the early adopters find the dealbreakers, then buy gen 2 used. My rule: never pay full price to be someone else's QA department.
