Okay so I noticed "gma deals and steals" is like the top trending search in the US today and my sister swears by these TV deal segments — she got a vacuum from one last year she still loves. But I also know "deal" segments are famous for pretending the MSRP is the real price, lol. Has anyone actually bought from one of these? How do you check whether the discount is real vs just... vibes? I do not want to buy junk because a morning show told me to.

It is mostly MSRP theater — check the price history

Most of these segments price against the full MSRP, which nobody actually pays. Before buying anything, paste the product into a price-history tracker and look at the last 6 months. If the "deal" price is what it was selling for three weeks ago, it is not a deal. The real exceptions are usually the boring stuff — consumables, refills — where a genuine 30-40% off is checkable. My rule: no buy unless the history shows the lowest price in 180 days.

Some are genuinely best-in-cycle — verify with data

Counterpoint: these segments occasionally land real best-in-cycle prices, especially on small appliances where the manufacturer co-funds the discount. The verification method matters more than the segment's reputation: check (1) the product's 180-day price history on a tracker, (2) whether the model is being replaced soon — clearance pricing — and (3) the exact model number, because deal SKUs are sometimes stripped-down variants. If all three check out, it is a buy. The segment itself is irrelevant.
