AI air fryers are suddenly everywhere — is the "AI" actually doing anything or is it a sticker?

Searches for "AI air fryer" are up 8,800% and suddenly every brand has one. I am not paying a premium for a sticker. What does the AI actually DO — does it sense the food and adjust time and temp, or is it just the same preset buttons with a fancier name and an app? Someone who bought one: is there anything inside it a normal air fryer cannot do?

it is a lookup table, not intelligence

Almost certainly no model on the device. What is usually behind the label: a weight sensor plus a preset matrix (food type x weight -> time and temp), sometimes with a suggestion layer in the app. The +8,800% search spike is a marketing wave riding the general AI-everything trend — same pattern as the AI Mini PC wave last month. Check the manual: if the "AI" features need your phone and a cloud account, it is a server-side rules engine. That does not mean it cooks worse — a good sensor beats a dumb timer — but do not pay 40% extra for the acronym.

    the presets are genuinely handy

I will push back a little — I air-fry four nights a week, and the guided presets are honestly useful when you are cooking something new. Mine suggests a time and temp when I pick "roast veg" vs "reheat pizza", and it is right about 80% of the time, which beats my guessing. Is it real AI? Probably not, dandev is right about that. But the value is not the label, it is not having to google "how long for frozen dumplings" every Tuesday. Do not pay a big premium for it, but it is not pure sticker either.
