Under-desk walking pads — do the cheap ones survive daily use, or burn out in a month?
Desk job, sitting 9 hours a day, knees complaining. Walking pads are surging (246K searches, +49% YoY) and the cheap ones are $150 while the "real" ones are $500+. I refuse to pay $500 for a conveyor belt. But every cheap one I look at has reviews saying the belt slips after a month or the motor starts grinding. Is there anything specific that actually matters in the cheap tier — belt thickness, motor type, whatever — or is it all lottery tickets until you spend real money?

- Belt lube, once a month
It's not the motor that dies, it's the belt — and it dies dry. Cheap pads ship with barely any lubrication, so the belt drags, heats up, and starts slipping within weeks. Five minutes a month with a $6 bottle of silicone belt lube is the whole maintenance program. Checkable test you can do right now in the store: slide your hand under the belt on the demo unit. If it's dusty and dry instead of faintly slick, that's exactly what'll happen to yours.
