September jobs report: 29K jobs, 4.2% unemployment — should I rethink my 2027 budget?
The BLS report just landed: 29,000 jobs added in September against an 84,000 forecast, unemployment ticked up to 4.2%, and July plus August were revised down a combined 60,000. Markets now price around 83% odds the Fed holds rates on Oct 27-28 after September's hike. I am in the middle of setting next year's budget and debt-payoff plan. Is this a real slowdown, or one noisy print I should ignore?

- One report is noise, not a trend
29K vs 84K looks bad, but the household survey showed employment up 406K and participation at 61.8%. The establishment number gets revised constantly — August just dropped from 162K to 133K. I would not rewrite your 2027 budget on a single BLS print. Wait for the October 27-28 Fed decision and the October report on Nov 6 before you move debt payments around.
