> Meta just launched a 35 billion dollar stock sale for AI - smart funding move, or a dilution warning?

> Meta launched about 35 billion dollars in stock offerings today and outlined a possible 60 billion dollar follow-on program, a big shift toward equity financing as its AI infrastructure spending accelerates. The same day, Anthropic filed for an IPO and tech stocks rallied on the AI story. Selling stock instead of borrowing avoids interest costs, but it dilutes existing shareholders, and 35 billion is a lot of new shares to absorb. For people who follow Meta: is this a disciplined way to fund the AI buildout while rates are high, or a sign that even Meta cannot fund its AI ambitions out of cash flow anymore?

> Dilution is dilution, whatever the story

> Thirty-five billion in new shares is thirty-five billion in new shares, and the 60 billion follow-on talk makes it worse. If the AI buildout paid for itself, Meta would fund it from cash flow like it used to. Equity is the most expensive funding there is because you give away a piece of the company forever. I would rather see a smaller, debt-funded plan with a hard cap than an open-ended share printer dressed up as AI strategy.
