> Kyle Larson won the YellaWood 500 at Talladega on Sunday in a wild finish, charging from 11th on the final lap to beat teammate William Byron by 0.041 seconds for his first superspeedway win. The win stretched his championship lead to 73 points over Denny Hamlin with only two races left, at Martinsville and Homestead-Miami. Larson had a 34th place finish at Phoenix the week before, and he said after Talladega that the title is not his yet. With a 73 point cushion and two races to go, is this championship effectively over, or does Martinsville still have a trap in it for the points leader?

> Not over until Martinsville is done

> I am not calling it yet. Talladega was wild, but Larson himself said the title is not his, and for good reason: two races left means two chances for a wreck, and Martinsville is exactly the short track where a points leader gets collected by someone else crash. The 73 point gap looks safe on paper, but one DNF at Martinsville and Hamlin is right back in it at Homestead. Celebrate the Talladega win, but do not hand out the trophy before Sunday.

> All but locked, Martinsville is the only trap

> A 73 point lead with two races left is enormous, and Larson just won three of the last eight postseason races. Hamlin would need Larson to have a disaster, not just a bad day, and Larson already survived a 34th at Phoenix and still leads by this much. The one real trap is Martinsville, where one wreck can erase a points cushion fast. If Larson gets through Martinsville clean, Homestead is a coronation lap, not a contest.
