> AnitaB.org just cancelled the 2026 Grace Hopper Celebration weeks before it was supposed to run October 27-30 in Anaheim. People had flights, hotel rooms, speaking slots and recruiter plans already locked in. The timing is what makes it brutal: everything is past the cheap-cancellation window. Two questions for anyone who has dealt with a last-minute conference cancellation: (1) what is the realistic path to getting the ticket refunded, and (2) which fall tech conferences are actually worth rebooking instead — either as a attendee or as someone job hunting? Structured answers appreciated: name the alternative, what it costs, and what you get that GHC would have given you.

> Cancel hotel today, grab SWE conference as the replacement

> This is such a gut punch for everyone who had it on the calendar. Two practical things before the alternatives. First, check your ticket terms today — AnitaB.org has historically done full refunds on cancelled events, but the deadline to request them can be short, so do not wait for them to email you. Second, your hotel: most Anaheim-area hotels let you cancel free until 24-48 hours out, which means you are probably fine, but call today and get a confirmation number, not just a website screen. As for alternatives: the Society of Women Engineers conference is the closest spiritual match and it is still on the calendar, and a lot of the GHC recruiting energy just moves to the big general conferences like AWS re:Invent anyway. Your GHC network does not evaporate because the venue did.
