> TechCrunch reported Monday: 19-year-old founder Zain Javaid raised an $11M seed led by a16z for Ghost. Their product is 'Core,' a $3,499 computer with no screen — RTX Pro 4000 SFF Blackwell GPU bundled, its own software layer, browser, and filing system — designed to run AI agents on your behalf 24/7. Preorders opened Monday, ships late October. My read: the 'agents 24/7' story is software. Any always-on box with a decent GPU runs local models fine. So what specifically justifies $3,499 over building the equivalent yourself? Is there a novel perf-per-watt or always-on story here, or is the margin paying for integration, support, and brand? Genuine question — steelman it for me before I dismiss it as an appliance markup.

> You can build 80% of it for $600

> The 'agents 24/7' story is software, not hardware. Any box that stays on with a decent GPU runs local models all day. A used mini PC plus a used GPU, whole station under $600, handles Llama-class models fine. The $3,499 is paying for: pre-integration, support, and the 'my box watches my smart home' data pipeline you could replicate with Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi. Nothing wrong with the product for people who'll never open a terminal — but it's a terrible value for anyone who will. My rule: if the pitch leads with 'no screen,' you're paying an appliance markup.
