> Comfort-hoodie searches are breaking out and fall is here. I want a thick, heavyweight hoodie that does not pill into a sad rag after five washes. I have been burned by cheap ones that die in a month, and I am not paying $200 for a logo. What is the actual sweet spot — brand, fabric weight if you know it, and how many washes has yours survived?

> I sew and mend, so here is my in-store test: turn the hoodie inside out and look at the fleece. Dense, tight loops that spring back when you press them = survives washing. Sparse, wispy fleece you can see through = pills by wash five. Then check the cuffs and hem stitching — if the ribbing is thin and the seams are single-stitched, walk away no matter what the tag claims about GSM. My oldest heavyweight one is going on four years and 60+ washes because it passed both checks.
