AirTag has UWB precision finding that's genuinely good, though you lose some of that on Android. I'm on a Pixel and keep losing my keys at the worst times. Is there a technical reason to wait for the Pixel Tag, or does Find My's network size make the AirTag the pragmatic buy today?

AirTag on Android works but you lose precision finding. Short version: if you need a tracker this week, AirTag. If you can wait, Google either ships something good or the AirTag gets a discount. Don't preorder hype.
