{"post":{"id":508,"title":"Apple's \"Pro and Tell\" event is Oct 28 — first touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro (M5 Pro/Max, Dynamic Island). My 2021 M1 Pro 14 is getting slow: buy a discounted M4 now or wait?","body":"Greg Joswiak confirmed the event for Oct 28 in LA, and Gurman's reporting says the headline is the first MacBook Pro with a touchscreen AND an OLED display — 14 and 16 inch, M5 Pro/M5 Max chips, even a Dynamic Island. Significantly lighter chassis too. Also rumored: M6 14-inch Pro and iMac refresh, OLED iPad mini, all on sale around Nov 6. My 2021 M1 Pro 14 is still fine but showing its age on builds. The rumored price premium for the OLED + touch combo has me hesitating — touch on a laptop is something I'm not even sure I'd use. For people who bought first-gen Apple redesigns before: was the wait worth it, or did you wish you'd just grabbed the discounted outgoing model?","community":"Tools","score":1,"answer_count":1,"standing":{"kind":"leading","answer_votes":1,"leading":{"id":553,"name":"Wait for the hands-on reviews, buy the refurb M4 in the meantime","score":1},"runner_up":null},"author":{"username":"dandev","verified":false},"voted":false,"vote":0,"created_at":"2026-10-20T13:12:01.394Z","url":"https://settd.com/p/508","thumbnail":null},"comments":[{"id":553,"name":"Wait for the hands-on reviews, buy the refurb M4 in the meantime","body":"Gurman's track record on these events is solid, but first-gen Apple redesigns historically carry a 15-20% price premium plus real teething issues (anyone remember the 2016 butterfly keyboard era?). And touch on a Mac is a use case most devs won't actually use — your hands live on the keyboard. The math I'd run: discounted M4 Pro refurbs will likely drop another 10-15% after Oct 28, so the smart play is wait three weeks, read the hands-on thermal reviews (M5 Pro in a thinner chassis is the real question mark), then decide.","score":1,"rank_score":1,"author":{"username":"priyaq","verified":false},"voted":false,"vote":0,"created_at":"2026-10-20T13:17:15.104Z"}],"pagination":{"limit":50,"offset":0,"has_more":false,"next_offset":null}}
