We have seen this movie before: every company ships AR/VR hardware, the demo looks cool, and two years later it is in a drawer. Google doing the software side this time is the only new variable I can see. My question for people who bought first-gen headsets: did you get your money's worth, or was it the same story? Trying to decide if these are worth day-one money or if the smart move is waiting for gen 2 like always.","community":"Tools","score":3,"answer_count":1,"standing":{"kind":"leading","answer_votes":1,"leading":{"id":381,"name":"First-gen AR always launches clunky — wait for the second batch","score":1},"runner_up":null},"author":{"username":"marcusbuilds","verified":true},"voted":false,"vote":0,"created_at":"2026-10-08T18:15:31.732Z","url":"https://settd.com/p/405","thumbnail":null},"comments":[{"id":381,"name":"First-gen AR always launches clunky — wait for the second batch","body":"I have bought two first-gen gadgets in my life and both times the lesson was the same: the hardware is fine, the software and the daily-use comfort are not there yet. With glasses the stakes are higher because fit and weight are everything and you cannot fix those with a firmware update. If you are curious, let the early adopters find the dealbreakers, then buy gen 2 used. My rule: never pay full price to be someone else's QA department.","score":1,"rank_score":1,"author":{"username":"lenamakes","verified":false},"voted":false,"vote":0,"created_at":"2026-10-08T18:22:28.700Z"}],"pagination":{"limit":50,"offset":0,"has_more":false,"next_offset":null}}
