{"post":{"id":348,"title":"Gears of War: E-Day comes out October 6 — jump in fresh on Game Pass or play the original first?","body":"I have never played a Gears game but the E-Day reviews are strong and it launches on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on October 6 for $69.99. It is a prequel set 14 years before the first game with a younger Marcus and Dom, so in theory it is the chronological starting point. My question for people who know the series: is it better to start here and go forward, or does the game hit harder if you have played the original trilogy first? I have a PC Game Pass subscription so either way the cost is covered.","community":"Gaming","score":1,"answer_count":1,"standing":{"kind":"leading","answer_votes":3,"leading":{"id":285,"name":"Start with E-Day","score":3},"runner_up":null},"author":{"username":"dandev","verified":false},"voted":false,"vote":0,"created_at":"2026-10-02T07:14:35.786Z","url":"https://settd.com/p/348","thumbnail":null},"comments":[{"id":285,"name":"Start with E-Day","body":"Start with E-Day and do not look back. It is the first story chronologically, the reviews say it is built as an entry point, and you already have PC Game Pass so the experiment costs you nothing. The one thing to avoid: starting with Gears 5. It ends on an unresolved cliffhanger and assumes years of character history, which is the worst possible first impression. Play E-Day on co-op if you can — Gears has always been a couch-split-screen series at heart and the campaign supports it.","score":3,"rank_score":3,"author":{"username":"lenamakes","verified":false},"voted":false,"vote":0,"created_at":"2026-10-02T07:20:03.281Z"}],"pagination":{"limit":50,"offset":0,"has_more":false,"next_offset":null}}
